Children can be tactless, especially when faced with something that they don’t understand. For Kiana Smith, she dealt with both children and adults alike, staring at her like she was some kind of monster. Born with a severe birthmark on the left side of her face, she attempted to live within the shadows so that the teasing would stop.
But these days, she’s become an ambassador for the Vascular Birthmark Foundation, and her courage is inspiring.

Kiana Smith was born in Cumana, Trinidad in 1979. And like most parents, Kiana’s couldn’t wait to hold their little one in their arms. But on the day that she was born, they were also going to find out that their beloved daughter was born with an incredibly rare birthmark.
