The holiday season is just around the corner and an island seems to be the perfect destination for one to get out and explore. However, there are some you should avoid at all costs.

Here are the 21 most dangerous islands in the world you shouldn’t set foot on.

1. North Sentinel Island, Andaman Islands

"1"North Sentinel is an isolated island in the archipelago of Andaman Sea outside India. The tribe inhabiting the island has no contact with the outside world and meets the visitors with spears and arrows. No outsider has been reported to come out alive. Two fishermen who fell asleep on their boat were killed when they sailed ashore on the island in 2006, and aid from the West after the tsunami in 2004 was chased away.

2. Reunion Island, Indian Ocean

"2"The water surrounding the island has a huge number of sharks. During the last couple of years, Reunion has had twelve shark attacks, and since 2013, it is forbidden to surf around the island.

3. Ramree Island, Myanmar

"3"Ramree Island is located off the Burmese Coast. During the Second World War, after the British won and the Japanese tried to escape through the island’s swamp, 400 soldiers became food for the island’s main population – salt water crocodiles.

4. Ilha de Queimada Grande, Brazil

"4"Ilha de Queimada Grande is a small island off the coast of Brazil and is better known as Snake Island. The Brazilian Navy has banned anyone from visiting the island as it is completely covered by venomous snakes.

5. Miyake – jima

"5"Miyake – jima is a small Japanese island where the active volcano Mount Oyama´s recent eruptions lasted for four years (2000-2004). The outbreak from the volcano ejected toxic sulfur vapors. When they reach a certain level, an alarm sounds across the island and all inhabitants will have to put on a gas mask.

6. Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands

"6"The Bikini atoll is located in the Pacific Ocean and belongs to the Marshall Islands. In 1946 the entire population was evacuated to the neighboring island Rongrik atoll since the United States wanted to carry out nuclear tests. Until 1958, 23 nuclear explosions were conducted, including the first hydrogen bomb. The food grown here is still contaminated.

7. Saba Island, Carribean

"7"Saba Island has an unfortunate geographical location, right in the path of the Earth’s worst and harshest winds. The island has been hit by more hurricanes than any other island in the past 100 years.

8. Izu Isands (Japan)

"8"Consisting of two towns and six villages, Izu Island is a volcanic island filled with poisonous sulfur in the air. All the residents have to permanently wear a mask to avoid contamination by the toxins.

9. Poveglia Island (Italy)

"9"The island is reported to have several paranormal activities. It is a tiny island located between Lido and Venice of Northern Italy. The island is also reported to have black pits where the victims of Black Death were buried. According to an estimate, over 100,000 people have died here.

10. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch (Northern Pacific)

"10"The island is filled with tons of plastic junk piled almost everywhere. It is also considered to be the destroyer of sea animals. There is a high toxic level on the island due to a large amount of plastic dumped here near the sea.

11. Gruinard Island (Scotland)

"11"The island is oval shaped and considered as one of the deadliest islands ever. Due to the biological warfare experiments of the British, the island was kept under secret. Scientists experimented with Anthrax, which killed all the local animals, as well as contaminated the soil.

12. Tristan da Cunha (South Africa)

"12"The British island group of Tristan da Cunha stands profoundly alone in the South Atlantic. It’s the world’s most remote inhabited island chain — so precariously occupied that when a volcanic vent erupted in 1961, the whole population was evacuated to England.

13. Bear Island (Europe North Coast)

"13"Bjornoya, better known as Bear Island, is the southernmost island in the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard, 400 miles north of mainland Europe.

An island is a place of barren cliffs, near-zero precipitation, and risk of leaks of radioactive material from the nearby wreck of a nuclear submarine.

14. North Sentinel Island (Myanmar)

"14"It’s surrounded by dangerous reefs, but North Sentinel is intimidating because of its inhabitants. The Sentinelese want nothing to do with the modern world and have repeatedly rebuffed attempts to make peaceful contact.

15. Rockall (Ireland)

"15"Rockall is the tip of an extinct volcano reaching 20 meters (about 65 feet) above sea level, in seas with waves recorded as high as 29 meters (95 feet). In 1955, the British Empire, in its final territorial acquisition, seized Rockall, allegedly due to fears the Soviets would build a missile battery on it.

16. Bishop Rock (England)

"16"Regarded by Guinness as the world’s smallest island with a building on it, Bishop Rock stands at the end of Britain’s Isles of Scilly, where coastal waters give way to the fury of the Atlantic. In 1847, engineers started building an iron lighthouse there and it washed away in a storm.

17. Farallon Islands (US)

"17"The sea around the Farallon Islands off the coast of San Francisco was used as a dumping site for radioactive waste. An estimated 47,500 55-gallon steel drums were discarded here, but their exact location and the risk they pose to the environment is unclear. It is also believed that attempting to remove them would cause more damage than leaving them untouched. There is also an extensive elephant seal population, which attracts scores of great white sharks.

18. Danger Island (Maldives)

"18"Danger Island is found 500 miles south of the Maldives. Danger Island makes our list entirely for its fearsome moniker. The name is thought to derive from the lack of safe anchorage, which made trips to the island particularly risky for early explorers.

19. Bouvet (Antarctica)

"19"Welcome to the uninhabited, bleakest island ever. Its cliffs are sheer. It’s almost entirely covered by glacier. In winter, its seas are pack ice and its nearest neighbor is Antarctica, 1,000 miles to the south. In short, idyllic.

20. Hashima Island (Japan)

"20"Hashima Island could once claim the title of the most densely-populated spot on the planet. The thousands of Japanese workers, as well as forced laborers from China and Korea who toiled in the island’s deep mine shafts during WWII, are long gone. When Japan shifted to petroleum as its main energy source instead of coal, the island was no longer economically viable, and hence deserted. Most of the massive concrete buildings are still standing, though, which gives this island the aura of a floating ghost town, or an old battleship.

21. The Island of the Dolls, Mexico

"21"The Island of the Dolls, or in Spanish, La Isla de las Munecas, is one heck of a creepy spot. The island, which is fairly close to Mexico City, is overflowing with dolls hanging from trees.
