Remember Martin Shkreli, the Turing boss who tried to increase the price of an Aids and cancer drug by 5,455%?<\/a> That stunt gained him little favor with the public, and, according to The Guardian<\/i><\/a>, absolutely no <\/i>admiration from the Democratic presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders.<\/p>\n

According to The Boston Globe<\/i><\/a>, Shkreli donated $2,700 to Sanders\u2019 campaign (the maximum individual contribution allowed) in an effort to secure a meeting with the Vermont senator. Apparently he wanted to \u201cdiscuss his side of the story\u201d <\/i>and the necessity for drug companies to sometimes charge high prices<\/a> in order to \u201cpay for life-saving pharmaceutical developments.\u201d\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n

Not surprisingly, Sanders wanted nothing to do with Shkreli or his tainted money.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not keeping the money from this poster boy for drug company greed,\u201d<\/i> said Michael Briggs, the spokesman for Sanders\u2019 campaign.<\/p>\n

Instead, the donation<\/a> will be handed over to the Whitman-Walker health clinic<\/a> in Washington, which specializes in treating HIV\/Aids patients in the LGBT community. How\u2019s that for irony and a slap in the face?<\/p>\n

Shkreli is \u201cfurious\u201d that Sanders has publicly rejected his money without discussing his side of the story on drug pricing.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs he willing to sort of accept that there is a tradeoff, that to take risks for innovation, companies have to invest lots of money <\/a>and they need some kind of return for that, and what does he think that should look like?\u201d <\/i>Shkreli said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Sanders likely expected such backlash, as he stated during the debate<\/a>: \u201cI would lump Wall Street and the pharmaceutical industry<\/a> at the top of my list of people who do not like me.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

Of course, Bernie isn\u2019t the only presidential candidate disgusted with Shkreli\u2019s greed. Clinton accused him of price gouging<\/a>, and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he looked like a \u201cspoiled brat.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

At least they agree on something.<\/p>\n
