Actor Danny Trejo may seem menacing, but he\u2019s got a lesser-known soft side that\u2019s going to make a lot<\/b> of animal rights activists<\/a> and conscious eaters<\/a> happy.<\/p>\n

Known for his intimidating snarls and the violent characters he often portrays in movies, Trejo surprised many fans when he shared news of his plan to open a taqueria in Los Angeles with plenty of vegan options.<\/p>\n

Los Angeles Times <\/i>reports<\/a> that the actor is opening Trejo\u2019s Tacos in a Los Angeles\u2019 Miracle Mile neighborhood.\u00a0The star is launching the business with\u00a0film producer Ash Shah and Jeff\u00a0Georgino.<\/p>\n

The eatery will feature premium dishes designed by L.A. chef Daniel Mattern, such as house-made salsas, organic chopped kale salads, mung bean tortillas and vegan tacos stuffed with things like fried avocado and black pepper tofu.<\/p>\n

“We have 10 different tacos,”<\/em> said Trejo. “It\u2019s just stuff that everybody likes<\/a>.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Gluten-free options will also be available.\u00a0“We try to be as vegan and vegetarian-friendly <\/a>as possible, considering it’s such a big movement now,”<\/em>\u00a0said Shah.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

And the menu isn\u2019t the restaurant\u2019s only virtue.<\/a> After service is over, any leftover food will be donated to a local homeless shelter.<\/p>\n

“Nothing is kept overnight,<\/em>” said Trejo.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The restaurant will be the latest addition to Trejo\u2019s collection of food projects, reports\u00a0Food and Wine<\/i><\/a>, In the past, the actor invested in Cerveca (his downtown L.A.-brewed beer) and his own coffee blend roasted in Pasadena.<\/p>\n

His ambitions won\u2019t end with the incredible taco\u00a0eatery<\/a>, either. Reportedly, he is looking to launch a line of ice cream sandwiches, as well as another Trejo\u2019s Taco outpost in Hollywood.<\/p>\n

Big changes are happening in the food industry<\/a>, and this star is getting in on some of the action.<\/p>\n
