For fifteen years, a senior dog named Bear lived his life chained to a doghouse in Suffolk County, New York. That recently changed when activists with Guardians of Rescue were able to legally cut him free. According to Robert Misseri, founder and president of the animal rights group, the dog had “spent his whole life attached to a heavy chain. We knew then and there that we had to do something to make a difference in that dog’s life, and so we did.”

The previous owner agreed to surrender the Chow and Labrador Retriever mix and the group happily took ownership of the hound. Until recently, however, the canine didn’t have a forever home. That changed when actor and animal rights activist Ricky Gervais used his segment on Good Morning America to ensure Bear was adopted by the right family.

As the video below relays, Gervais decided to use his segment to raise awareness about Bear’s plight and help find him a home rather than speak about his upcoming film David Brent: Life On The Road.

“I was here to talk about that but I’ve just discovered there’s a dog needs adopting, so I’d rather use my segment to get him adopted,” said Gervais to the audience. “I’m not leaving until we get a phone call this guy’s adopted. He was chained up for 15 years.”

The executive producer of the show told the viewers that they could Tweet Good Morning America on Twitter if they wanted to adopt the dog.

“Give him a life. He’s so loving but he’s had no life. Give him two years’ bucket list. Give him love,” pleaded Gervais.
