Spending some time with pets and even with wild animals at the zoo is fun, provided you keep a safe distance. But for some animal lovers – and others who simply don’t have any idea why they’re in the company of animals in the first place – things could take an unexpected turn when these animals unleash their ferocious instincts. It happens, especially if the animals, no matter how tamed, aren’t given the respect they deserve. Some people are either aware that such unexpected circumstances could occur, but simply chose to ignore the risks, or are simply overwhelmed by the excitement caused by seeing the animals (like that one time when a man in China jumped off a chairlift into a tiger enclosure).

You may find the some of the following images hilarious, but some are cringe-worthy. From a camel munching on a tourist’s face, an enormous whale landing on a small boat after breaching, to a dog letting it out on an unfortunate sunbather, True Activist reveals some of the most amazing photos of animals taken before the unexpected, and uncomfortable, turn of events took place.

1. Sleepy Um…

Crocodiles are cool and so if you see one you are probably going to want to get a selfie with it. Well, don’t do it! Johnny Bonde, a 27-year-old Danish backpacker exploring Australia’s wilderness, had to learn the hard way. This picture was taken right before the animal grabbed Bonde’s arm leaving him seriously injured. The man luckily broke free from the animal and explained in an interview with Perth Now “He got my arm and shook me … It was the result of me being stupid. If somebody slammed me at night, I would be angry, too”.

2. Deadly Jump

Whales are usually harmless and gentle but as we know they are huge wild animals and they like to jump and play. This little fishing boat was more than splashed as the whale landed squarely on it killing all its passengers.

3. Snap!

Taking a selfie with a duck sounds like a fun idea but pointing at it with your finger can be a threatening sign for the animal or can simply mean you are offering your worm shaped finger as food. So, if you think about it for a second, you might change your mind before getting to close to a duck for a picture, after all it’s wildlife and there are probably signs everywhere preventing you from doing it anyways.

4. Ouch!

Racoons are tricky small animals and they are everywhere, by the trash cans, hidden in bushes or sewers right around the corner from your house. Experts say raccoons are now twice as aggressive and suggest people to make an effort not to walk their dogs near any bushed areas or places where the wild animals may be hiding.

5. Marking Its Territory

Well, this tragedy seems more manageable than getting bitten by a crocodile but it can totally ruin your pleasant sunbathing moment. Oops!

6. Surfing With Sharks

Seth Mead, a 26 year-old surfer, survived a great white shark attack while surfing in Oregon’s Gold Beach. The animal unexpectedly pushed Mead and his surfboard three feet out of the water clamping his right leg and foot. As unexpectedly as it came, the shark disappeared into the water leaving the surfer severely injured.

7. The Fastest Feline On Earth

This leopard escaped from Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary, in West Bengal, and the entire Lumi village was terrorized as the wild animal was captured but inefficiently tranquilized. After attacking the man in the picture the Leopard was shot and killed by the man holding a gun on the back. The good news is that the attacked man survived.

8. What A Bite!

What you see here is the result of taking a selfie with a camel. The head of the animal is twice the size of the woman’s head, can’t begin to imagine how painful that bite was but from observing this image I think I can imagine how annoying it is for wild animals to be bothered by intrusive people.

9. Breaking The Rules

This 22 year-old man was killed after slipping into the cage of this white tiger at the National Zoological Park in Delhi. Eyewitnesses said the animal stared at the man for over 15 minutes and it was only after people starting throwing rocks at it in an attempt to save the man that the tiger actually started attacking him.

10. Feathers

The tragedy in this case happened after these tourists at the Yunnan Wild Animal Park in Kunming, China, decided they weren’t satisfied enough with the park policy allowing visitors to walk among the peacocks and take pictures with them, and plucked out two birds’ feathers scaring them so much that the birds went into a state of shock that ultimately killed them.

11. Sticky Friend

Considering deadly Blue Ringed Octopus live in tide pools and coral reefs in Australia it was probably a scary moment for this man to realize he had carried this friend clung to his back after swimming in the Australian ocean. A bite from this animal can go unnoticed but within 5 minutes it can cause paresthesias, numbness and difficulty breathing and swallowing. Luckily, the octopede creature was safely removed from the man’s back causing no harm to neither one of them.

12. Out Of Control

This bull rampaging through the streets of Portugal attacked every person it encountered using his sharp horns, causing multiple injuries along the way. Crazy!

13. Surprise!

On 19 July 2015, at the J-Bay Open finals, Mick Fanning encountered what is suspected to be a great white shark. Fanning tried to put his board between the shark and his body eventually punching the animal away to swim back to the shore, luckily he wasn’t bitten. Within a week of surviving this “shark attack” the surfer returned to the water.

14. Jump Away!

This bride’s tragedy seems like a truly unforgettable one and this cat is a truly athletic one.

15. Breaking The Law

This police officer from South Florida is trying to keep this nuisance alligator under control and avoided what could have become a real tragedy.

16. Best Pet Ever?

Though in Oxford, Florida, the owner of a Burmese python is facing prison time after her pet killed her daughter, this woman seems really calm while swimming with a pet that can eat her in one single bite. According to the United States Geological Survey, Burmese pythons are nonvenomous and ‘Human fatalities from non-venomous snakes are very rare, probably averaging one or two per year worldwide”, hopefully, this wasn’t one of them.

17. This One Is Just For Research Purposes

“..The story of this particular photograph began on a perfectly calm and glassy sea. I tied myself to the tower of the White Shark Trust research boat and leaned into the void, precariously hanging over the ocean while waiting patiently…When the shark’s dorsal fin emerged, I thought I had the shot but hesitated a fraction of a second. In that moment, the research assistant in the kayak, Trey Snow, turned to look behind him, and I took the shot. Throughout the day I shot many more similar images…”. Thomas P. Peschak, ocean researcher, and conservation photographer.

18. Somebody’s Watching You

These two hunters have killed what seems to be a black bear cub, and while posing for this picture feeling proud and holding their “bear trophy” they remain unaware of the bear watching behind.

19. Watch Out For Hungry Birds

A hungry seagull swooping from the skies to steal the food of a terrified peasant has become a habitual scene in many developed cities around the world. These birds got accustomed to eat people leftover food because they don’t dispose of it properly. Needless to say, the seagulls have learned to enjoy taking advantage of an easy meal.

20. Don’t Let The Pigeon Steal Your Food

When birds are hungry they get angry. Keep away!

21.Taking A Dip

This 32-year-old woman literally swam to this polar bear after jumping into its zoo enclosure, she leaped over bars, a fence, and a wall at the Berlin Zoo during the bears’ feeding time. There were four polar bears kept in the enclosure and the woman was bitten on her arms and legs but with the help of six zookeepers, she managed to survive the attack.

22. Taking A Ride

The man in the picture looks scared and the goose looks determined. This New York City commuter got intercepted by a goose while on the road. It’s known geese will attack humans while protecting their young. The man survived the goose attack and he’s been able to ride the same route without any problems.

23. Mating Season

Elephants change their behavior during mating season and this picture is the proof of it. The animal escaped from Khao Yai National Park in Thailand obstructing the road, crashing this car and making a visit to a shop and a restaurant breaking through the windows with its trunk. There were no injuries reported.

24. Not A Show

This Franciscana dolphin was taken from the ocean and passed around in a crowd of people who took selfies with it, then it was left to die on the sand. There are only 30,000 Franciscana dolphins left in the wild. A statement issued by the Argentine Wildlife Federation urged people “to return these dolphins to the sea if one is found on the shore.”

25. Take A Bite

We don’t know whether this dog is angry or just playing with its owner but if this was the moment before a bite and not a doggie kiss, that probably hurt her a whole lot.

26.No More Selfies With Wild Animals Please

On March 8, 2016, this woman wanted to take a selfie with this swan so she decided to pull the bird out of the water near Lake Ohrid in Macedonia. The swan reportedly died after the incident.

27. Keep Your Pants On

A woman was attacked by a polar bear in Northern Russia. Terrified locals helped the woman escape, though, with her trousers down, she walked off apparently unscathed.

28. What A Show!

In February 2010 whale trainer Dawn Brancheau was dragged underwater by orca whale Tilikum while a crowd of spectators awaited a demonstration between Brancheau and the animal. Tilikum was also involved in the death of two other trainers.

29. Give Me A Big Hug

We aren’t sure whether this dog is giving this woman a hug or if this game got a little too serious and she isn’t actually laughing in that picture. It could actually be she’s really scared.

30. Big Smile

This girl looks really happy and smiley in the picture but that might be because she’s unaware there is an upset horse right behind her and the animal’s got a really scary smile in its face. No injuries have been reported.

31. Give Me That Sandwich Please

This kangaroo seems to be asking for that woman’s food using some really nice manners. She looks scared but it seems like as long as she hands her food to the animal she’ll be ok. That kangaroo only really wanted the woman’s sandwich.

32. Don’t Feed The Wildlife

In May 2015, a 10-year-old girl was bitten by a camel at a safari park in Virginia suffering serious injuries on her forearm. Apparently, the camel was trying to get food from her.

33. Crazy Billy Goat

An angry goat rampaging outside a Brazilian prison attacked a number of pedestrians, knocking some of them over (including a pair on a motorcycle). The goat escaped from a farm in Southern Brazil and was eventually caught. Supposedly, the aggressive behavior is typical for male goats that can be territorial.

34. Better Than The Circus

A giraffe escaped from its enclosure at the Rinaldo Orfeo Circus in Imola, Italy, chasing people along the streets for hours. In this picture, the galloping giraffe is chasing a scared local. Other locals reported damage to their cars. The giraffe managed to evade capture for a long time before being cornered in the parking lot of a grocery store. The animal was given tranquilizers and no injuries were reported. The giraffe was back at the zoo soon after.

35. Just Don’t Do It!

Chinese tourists stumbled onto an injured dolphin while swimming off the coast of Sanya City manhandling the distressed animal, lifting it out of the water to take photos of themselves with it. The dolphin died of “excessive bleeding” at a nearby marine park alerting wildlife authorities.

36. Horse Attack

Horses are beautiful animals, they can become people’s best friend and when feeling threatened they will most likely flee rather than attack. There have been some cases though in which horses react badly and injure those who accidentally trigger their anger. Please be careful when dealing with wild horses if you don’t know anything about them.

37. Run For Your Life

Wild boars are foragers and they consume both plants and animals primarily eating leaves, grasses, roots, fruits, and flowers. They mainly dwell in forested areas where trees and vegetation provide them shelter and food and they can exhibit aggressive territorial behavior. Boars have four extremely sharp tusks up to five inches long that can severely injure or kill a hiker, however, as they aren’t hunters if you can outrun them they will rarely pursue you.

38. Let’s Keep Rolling

Photo: LiveLeak

Apparently, this grizzly bear was tossing this woman around in a glass box for a Japanese game show called Predator Shield. The disturbing video shows a petrified victim enclosed in what looks like flimsy protection while the massive predator overturns the cage repeatedly. There isn’t further information about the woman being circled around in the glass box but she managed to film the entire ride.

39. Warned Not To Feed Bears

Authorities reported that a woman had been feeding bears at her home in Lake Tahoe, California, three of the four bears she fed were killed. Apparently, the woman had conditioned the bears to further explore human settlements and either wildlife officials were forced to kill them to safeguard the public or cars accidentally hit them. Lt. Patrick Foy of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife told the Associated Press that the woman had just fed one of the bears and was walking back to her house when the animal struck her from behind. She survived the attack but suffered several injuries.

40. Tragedy

Harambe, a 17-year-old Gorilla was shot after a five-year-old boy was knocked unconscious after falling into the animal enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo. Authorities reported the boy crawled through the railing and fell about 10ft. Witnesses heard the boy saying he wanted to get into the water, but his mother, who was taking care of several other children, said ‘no’. People blamed the boy’s parents for not looking after their son and called the tragedy ‘murder’.

41. Zoo staff mauled by white tigers

Credit: https://c1.staticflickr.com[/caption]

Don’t taunt wild animals. Just don’t. Ever. But that knowledge didn’t seem to sink into some people’s thick skulls. So when Nordin Montong decided it’s fine to mess with the tigers with his broom and a bucket, one of the tigers lunged at him and knocked him over. The zoo keeper was recovered, but his wounds in the back and neck and a fractured skull caused his death even before he could be brought to the hospital.
