10. Om
Om is a many-layered word. The entire universe is captured in this single word for Hindus. The three-syllable word (a-u-m) represents a myriad of words, like earth, atmosphere, and heaven. A sacred Hindu text describes Om as “The past, the present, and the future, all that was, all that is, all that will be is om. Likewise, all else that may exist beyond the bounds of time, that too is om.”
