No One Left Behind
When their rescuers finally arrived at their location, they had offered to take Samuel along with the first boys to be airlifted out. He refused, citing that he would rather the others go before him in order to remain with the other injured teens in case they still needed his help. And although the others would attest to their survival as mostly Sam’s doing, he himself said, “I think it was a group effort. I wouldn’t say yes or no [if it was just him who saved his friends]. As a joint effort, I think we definitely did, yeah.” But the families of all 7 teenagers that survived might tell you differently, unbelievably grateful for Sam’s courage and skill.
