From an outsider’s point of view, 49-year old Todd and 30-year old Katrina Smith’s marriage seemed fine. He was the breadwinner who worked hard to provide for his family of five. She, on the other hand, was up for a new job that paid better. In fact, the lovebirds were just coming home to Illinois from an anniversary trip in Washington D.C. when things went downhill. Katrina does her laundry first and was set to write an email to finalize the details of her job interview. Then, she goes out to run errands.
That was the night of October 22, 2012, and that was the last time anyone heard from her.
No Word
That night, he sent her a message on her cellphone, “Sweet dreams, I love you.” And then, the next day came and he sent her another text message saying, “Good luck at your interview. You’re gonna be awesome.” He was vexed because she usually responded to his messages, but when no word came, he seemed sincerely worried. Maybe she was just busy? Or has she read his messages at all?
