Wounds That Would Not Heal
Jessica’s mother and her sister continue to mourn for Jessica. While Rebecca, her mother, feels racked with guilt at not having been there for her daughter on that horrible night, Heather says that her life is divided into two periods- life before and after Jessica. Rebecca said she could still feel her daughter’s heartbeat, she could hear her daughter praying. Both mother and daughter continue to miss her- and no amount of time Smith spends in prison will ever bring her back. What added to her grief was the fact that when her last school report came out her grades had drastically improved- she had been listening after all.
