Despite the setback in the finality of the case, Rodriguez thankfully still awaits his death penalty sentence. Unfortunately for the families of the victims, many prisoners wait an average of 16 years on death row before their penalty is paid out. At least for Dru’s family, there is justice knowing that Rodriguez is still getting what he deserves. She said “This comes to no surprise to us at all. I think a lot of people don’t understand that when people are on death row they have only one hour a day outside their confinement… So he really honestly has to sit and think about what’s done, day in and day out.”
