Meryl Streep is a phenomenal actress, and she proved that once more when she won her third Oscar for her portrayal of the former British PM Margaret Thatcher. According to critics, Meryl did a formidable impersonation of Thatcher. The former PM had been portrayed several times in the past by actresses Patricia Hodge and Lindsay Duncan, and both did well in capturing her energy, but it was Meryl Streep who perfectly caught her body language. The actress’ performance covered nearly 40 years of the former PM’s life. She successfully captured her mannerisms and other nuances of Thatcher’s personality. Streep worked very hard by immersing herself into the life of Margaret Thatcher, and in the end, her impeccable performance won the approval of the audience and critics.

When it was first reported that Cate Blanchett was going to play Bod Dylan in the biopic I’m Not There, people thought it wasn’t going to work. But it did. Seven actors played different versions of Bod Dylan, and Cate Blanchett, the only female to portray the singer, was one of those up for the challenge. She played the version of Dylan depicting the singer as a rock star “going electric and self-combusting in front of the media.” Asked if it was difficult for her to portray the role, Blanchett said, “I always dressed as a man when I was at school. I loved wearing a tie and shirt and I was always wearing suits.” She did end up looking the part, and although having a female actor portray the life of a real-life male character was one of the most controversial things to happen on the silver screen, they’ve managed to pull it off.
