In recent weeks, the rest of Spain has been hit with severe rain and snow, but the north-western region of Galicia recently experienced what was the worst drought to hit the region in decades. And as water levels in the Galician region dropped, so much more than the severity of the calamity have been revealed.

Galicia is a historic and autonomous region of Spain found in the North-West of the Iberian Peninsula. The region is surrounded by mountains. Although Galicia enjoys a temperate and rainy climate, its summers are usually drier.
