5,000 Men And 40 Seconds
Crazily, each man that made it onto the rood would only be given 40 seconds to work per period because of the radiation poisoning. Once the 40-seconds was up, they would have to leave and someone else would take over. And this would go on a few times until they were no longer allowed to work because they had been exposed too much. And while the machines were said to have done 10% of the work, it was really the 5,000 men, like those seen in this photo, that managed to eventually decontaminate the plant.
