During their burial, visitors came from Germany, Australia, France and Great Britain to pay their respects. Friends of the Hunley were able to find two descendants of the ship’s sailors, and they paid their respects to the fallen submarine and its crew. The service was marked by formality and it was inspiring. It was the proper send-off for such a historical ship and such courageous men.

The country’s first combat submarine is not yet completely restored but visitors are free to visit her to get a grand tour of her tank, her artifacts, and her predecessors. The submarine replicas stand out as visitors can actually enter it. The tours are done on weekends. They serve as an excellent tribute and a commemoration to a ship whose achievement is a breakthrough in American naval history.
