When authorities arrived, one of them, Ian Swan, an explosives expert, accidentally stepped into one of the bear traps. According to Swan, he felt the solid steel nails of the trap go “right down into his bone.” Cockburn’s alibi in court was that the beartraps found in his shed were just “welding practice.”
