After a brief standoff, Nick surrendered, and the people who knew Gypsy started to realize that she was not the frail girl her mother had led everyone to believe. In fact, she was capable of more than just walking; she helped clean up the crime scene before fleeing with Nick to Wisconsin. It was also revealed that she was the one who sent out the terrifying Facebook posts in hopes of helping the police find her mother sooner.

Finally, Gypsy and Nick were apprehended. Their mug shots were strikingly similar – they had similar frames, facial shapes, and they even had matching haircuts. Nick had no violent crime records prior to the murder, although he was apprehended for watching pornography on a laptop inside a restaurant. But as early as 2004, he had already expressed his desire to kill Dee Dee in a text message he sent out to Gypsy, which read, “Honey, you forget I am ruthless, and my hatred of her will force her to die.”
