11. Young giraffe killed by euthanasia

At a zoo in Florida, a young giraffe was put down because of a spinal injury it sustained when it lodged its head between two poles. When the animal was set free, it could no longer stand properly. Treatments were undertaken but were unsuccessful. Eventually, zoo officials had to euthanize the mammal.
