Elizabeth’s family was known to be devout Mormons who were kind to everyone they met. So when Brian David Mitchell showed up looking for work, Edward Smart didn’t hesitate to offer him a few odd jobs to do around the house. He just thought that he could offer the man a bit of money for completing some work. Little did he know the kind of horrible plans he was devising to do to his beautiful older daughter.

Someone’s In The Bedroom

On June 5, 2002, Elizabeth had been sound asleep in her bed when she woke up because someone was standing over her bed. She was startled awake by a cold knife being held against her throat. Her abductor told her quietly, “I have a knife at your neck, don’t make a sound, get up and come with me.” And then after dragging her through the house and almost to the door, he said again, “If you make any sound if you do anything that causes any attention or causes someone to come, I will not only kill you, but I will kill anyone who tries to stop me.” Elizabeth was only 14 years of age at the time.
