After Elizabeth’s sister had remembered who had taken her that night in June, America’s Most Wanted decided to air a segment about her kidnapping in January of 2003. As soon as the show was done, a number of calls came in from people who claimed to know exactly whom Mitchell was. His ex-wife, his kids, even his stepchildren told them that he was no longer clean-shaven, but that he had a beard, long hair and wore robes. They even said that he had a “thing” for young girls.

Spotting The Trio Hitch-Hiking

For a second segment, America’s Most Wanted aired Elizabeth’s story and shared, even more, details of her kidnapping. Then finally, in March 2003, the strangely garbed “family” was seen hitchhiking back to Salt Lake City, Utah from California. Surprisingly while in California, they were not “in hiding,” and rather were out amongst the crowd. And just like the citizens of Salt Lake City, it would seem that he was a harmless, albeit strange man, with a family that lived his rather simplistic and prophetic lifestyle. But finally, on March 12, 2003, everything changed.
