In 2017, Miley Cyrus announced that she was steering away from pasties and nipple tapes, two things that became synonymous with the Malibu singer’s brand of publicity. She also said that she is toning-down the marijuana and alcohol as she sought to begin a new phase in her career.
During an interview for Billboard Magazine in May of that year, she said that she was rolling out a new sound rooted on country music that would allow her to be taken more seriously, following years of being dubbed as one of pop music’s “bad girls.”
