Misunderstood
Jill found her son crying, the cause of which, she thought, was because his coach had done something to him. But the boy may have been crying because Jill was late to pick him up. Things turned for the worse when Kelli said, “He didn’t line up fast enough. Maybe he just walked slowly.” Jill and her husband, Kent, who was also an attorney, became deeply offended by Kelli’s use of the word “slow.” They thought Kelli meant that their son was being mentally slow.
