Scared to death according to police

Although Alayah didn’t sustain serious injuries and she was able to return to the daycare a few days following the incident, the experience left her with serious psychological trauma. The incident scared Alayah to death and she became afraid of the stairs, according to Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood.

“It still hurts me, just seeing the video. When I saw it air I was just like wow. It still hurts,” Childcare of the Future owner and manager Shawayne Tavares said in an interview. “The little girl was just really shaken up. Her eyes were literally like ‘help me.’” She also affirmed Officer Chitwood’s statement that Alayah became a little scared of the steps when she returned to the daycare.
