In South Carolina, there’s an astonishing lane of oaks that date all the way back to 1790. The plantation that it sits on had been owned by a number of families, but the actual row of trees were planted by the Fickling family, with their home built at the end of it. And while the trees are romantic with their twisted and gnarly branches, they also look like they belong in a horror movie.
