Dryden had three years reprieve, but a year after Hume’s death, another tragedy struck. Stephen Starr was the town’s beloved football coach. He was respected at school and he also was a very devoted father to a 17-year old girl. And like any other high school teenager, she had a boyfriend. Jonathan Merchant seemed good enough for Starr’s daughter, but alas, the relationship was doomed to fail. She broke up with him, and what happened next changed the Starr family’s lives.
