When the Niagara County coroner, Joseph Mantione, arrived to take Michael’s body to the morgue, it was said that he was completely ‘unnerved by the man’s state.’ The coroner went out to the staff who was handling the case and said, “Dead people don’t move. He [Dr. Perry] needs to go in there and check his pulse.”

The Coroner Wouldn’t Take Him

The coroner on the case was also a funeral director who shares that he had never seen a case like this in the 17 years that he’d been doing his job. He refused to take Michael, telling the medical staff, “I’m not taking his body. I’m leaving. If he ceases to have any life actions, give me a call and I’ll come back.”
