30. The House of the Seven Gables, Salem, Massachusetts
The House of the Seven Gables was the subject of the novel written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Since its completion in 1667, the house went through several modifications over the years. It now serves as a museum. But the house seems to have a life of its own. Lights and taps turn on on their own. A ghostly apparition of a woman has been reported by witnesses, as well as a little boy who seemed to be playing in the attic.
