Assaulted and Violated

While docked in Papua, New Guinea, a country located in the Pacific Ocean, Jeanne Baret was assaulted and raped by no other that 3 members of the expedition crew. She was left bloodied and brutally beaten but instead of punishing her attackers, the men on the expedition decided to cover up the incident and pretend that it never occurred. In the aftermath of her ordeal, Baret was left impregnated by the very men who desecrated her.

Baret has been credited as the first woman to sail around the world but the price she paid for the recognition was definitely what she bargained for.
