In 2007, Alexei Navalny began taking part in vigorous activism against political corruption in Russia. He exposed dubious state contracts and the luxurious mansions of public officials both in Russia and abroad. For his work, he has been arrested and imprisoned numerous times. In 2013, the European court of human rights ruled in favor of Navalny, saying he had been deprived of a fair trial. He is also an internationally recognized as a political prisoner and said to be the man Putin “fears the most.”
