The 911 call
Mike rushed to the scene and saw his wife sprawled on the ground. He immediately grabbed Tanner and quickly brought him to the house. At 1:48 p.m. Mike called 911. He was still shaking when he told the dispatcher the whole thing. However, he couldn’t get himself to tell Tanner what happened to his mother. All he told him was that Jill bumped her head and was knocked unconscious.
Breaking protocol
At 2:11 p.m., Lincoln County Sheriff LeRoy Yowell and Undersheriff Alan Yowell arrived at the scene along with some medical technicians. Jill Wells was pronounced dead. Alan Yowell proceeded to take photographs of the scene and then spoke with Mike. He later spoke with Tanner in the presence of his father, something that was against protocol.
