Could there be more?

However, there’s more to the story than meets the eye. Why did the ship sink when there was clearly no collision, no other ship in sight? Why were the cabin doors tied open instead of closed shut to keep water out? The evidence clearly hinted that the ship was intentionally destroyed to keep officials from gathering evidence. More importantly, a Sam Simon crew member remembered how Captain Cataldo pumped his fist in the air when his ship finally sank. He then proceeded to climb onto the confiscated nets to simply sleep as if nothing happened. These glimpses of inconsistency were enough for the Sea Shepherd crew to assume the truth, and that they intentionally tampered with the ship and destroyed evidence.

A cause for celebration

While most of the evidence sank with the ship, this had been a success for Sea Shepherd. They had stopped the biggest trawler and their Ocean Defence Campaign had been a relative success. More than a 100 days of pursuit and the number one on Interpol’s purple list was no more. This is definitely far from the last of their mission, but to date, this is their biggest success. The world can only hope that this scares the other poachers into silence and that this is only the beginning for the ocean life to thrive once again.
