Goliath Bird Eating Spider

The Goliath birdeater spider (Theraphosa blondi) is a type of a tarantula spider found mainly in northern South America. In terms of mass and size, this is the largest spider. It is called “bird-eating” based on an 18th-century copper carving by Maria Sibylla Merian which shows the spider eating a hummingbird, although the species rarely prey on birds. It mainly feeds on earthworms, toads, insects and even rodents, lizards, frogs and snakes.
