Elon Musk and Donald Trump are two individuals one would think might never get along, let alone work together. Yet, this is exactly what will happen in the years to come, as the President-elect’s transition team recently appointed the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, as well as Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, to an advisory team of business leaders known as the Strategic and Policy Forum.

According to the December 14th announcement, the team will be comprised of sixteen individuals who have vast experience in business strategy as well as economic success. In addition to Elon Musk, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Google co-founder Larry Page, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, IBM CEO Ginni Rometty, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich and Uber CEO Travis Kalanick (to name a few) were appointed to be on the team.

The announcement came as a big surprise to many, considering Musk has been very critical of Donald Trump before and after the election. Before Trump became President-elect, Musk said in an interview with CNBC that the Republican nominee was “not the right man for the job” and that “he doesn’t seem to have the character that reflects well on the States.” After the business tycoon won more electoral votes than Hillary Clinton, Musk also lamented that the outcome “not the finest moment in our democracy in general.”

Before the election took place, Musk also stated that Hillary Clinton’s economic and environmental policies were better. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering Musk has made much of his fortune from harnessing renewable energy. He’s also a proud advocate of environmental sustainability. Trump, on the other hand, believes climate change is a “hoax” invented by the Chinese.

Despite their differences, the two can agree that the U.S. should invest in private space exploration, which is part of the reason Elon was likely appointed to the forum. Of course, his successful ventures have also made him a reputable individual. From founding PayPal to wooing the world with Tesla vehicles, he’s living proof that what one conceives they can absolutely achieve.

In the video below, Donald Trump meets with the Forum for the first time. In his own words, the team was organized to “improve the business climate and make it attractive for firms to create new jobs across the United States from Silicon Valley to the heartland.”

“Anything we can do to help this go along, we’re going to be there for you and you’ll call my people, you’ll call me.  It doesn’t make any difference.  We have no formal chain of command around here,” he added.

Regardless of Musk’s and Trump’s differences, this new partnership is likely to inspire hope, as Trump’s hateful rhetoric and comments on climate change have caused many to fear the next four years. What are your thoughts? Please comment below and share this news!
