When getting into the details of the case, the prosecutor assigned to the trial, Joshua Powell, explained that Towns had purposely bought a “burner” cell phone for the purpose of fooling people. He explained, “Jay Towns had a personal cell phone, but instead decided to buy this second telephone to contact the Runions.”
