Then a Senator from North California and a strong candidate for Presidency, lost his credibility when his mistress was reported to be pregnant while his wife was dying of cancer. He later admitted that he had fathered a baby girl with his mistress, and his wife died within a year of filing for legal separation after Edwards continued to lie about the affair.
