Born on October 12, 1947, in Broomall, Pennsylvania, Carl was the son of immigrants who hailed from Armenia. Already at the young age of 15, he was shot while attempting to rob a candy store. Unfortunately, he spent 18 months in a State Youth Facility in Camp Hill. In 1964, he was released, but rather than turning over a new leaf, he ended up continuing his criminal ways.

Gugasian assumed that he wouldn’t be able to lead a life that wasn’t one of crime since he now had a criminal record. In fact, FBI Agent Ray Carr even said, “He didn’t know that juvenile records get expunged. He thought he’d never be able to get a real job.” Despite that, he went on to get a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, as well as enroll in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. He even went on to join the US Army even doing training in tactical weapons and in special-forces as well. So one had to wonder why he would eventually go into a life of crime considering his accomplishments.
