Following Protocol
When people, especially family and friends, would hear the news about what had happened, they wanted to know why Amber was alone in the woods. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service spokesperson, Jennifer Strickland, would say that all protocols had been followed, in spite of Amber having been working on her own.
Strict Rules
While there are no regulations about people working for the wildlife service work in groups, what is required is particular equipment needed to be brought with them. In Amber’s case, she had her ‘bear spray and a satellite communication device,’ aside from a few other items she had with her, which meant that all rules were being followed in her case.
