Jogger Found Lifeless In Secluded Park. Months Later, A Case of Pure Luck Helped Cops Figure Out The Truth

Chanel Lewis

Finally having a single lead, the police went to his mom’s house in search of Lewis, who happened to be there at the time. Lewis voluntarily allowed authorities to do a cheek swab, and almost by pure luck, his DNA matched that found on Karina’s body. He was then arrested for the alleged murder and assault on the 30-year-old jogger.

What Was His Motive?

As details of the murder began to unfold, NYPD said that although unfortunate, it seems that Karina was a classic case of someone being in the “wrong time at the wrong place” and that it hadn’t been premeditated. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Lewis, who had admitted to Karina’s murder, but not to sexually assaulting her, said that he supposedly told authorities that “he couldn’t stop himself from attacking Vetrano as she jogged passed him.”
