He continued in his eulogy with, “She lived every day as if it were her last, getting every second of living in her every minute… She did more in those short 30 years than 10 people do in a lifetime. We weren’t just a father and daughter, we were like one and the same.” Cathy, Karina’s mother, read one of the poems found on her daughter’s blog. And when the crowd began to applaud, she told them, “Don’t stand up and clap for me. Stand up and clap for Karina.”

Living Out Karina’s Dream On Her Behalf

 

At the time of her death, Karina had been training for a marathon that she was hoping to join in Cuba sometime in November. Since she couldn’t go herself, Karina’s family and friends flew to Havana to “fulfill” her dream of being there. They even sprinkled a few of her ashes in one of their beautiful parks. Her dad went on to say “That was on Karina’s bucket list. I intend to fulfill all those things on her list.”
