16. Trump International Hotel and Tower, Chicago
This 1,389-foot-high skyscraper was designed by Owings and Merrill and stands close to the Chicago River.
The plan was to build it to become the world’s tallest building, but that plan was scrapped after the 9/11 World Trade Center terror attacks for fear that the building could become a target of a terror attack in the future. The $847 million hotel is “one of ten prestigious hotels in the world to boast Five-Star Forbes Ratings for both its hotel and restaurant, and the only hotel in the Midwest with this distinction”.
