Because he needed more answers, Roberts decided to contact Manson in 2001. Charles was serving a life sentence in prison for a killing spree that started in 1969. Upon contacting his alleged father through letters, Manson had said that he remembered Matthew’s mother, Terry, quite affectionately. Matthew went on to confirm the background of his birth mom’s relationship with Manson, “They hit it off right away. He was particularly fond of her, so much so that other girls got jealous of my mother, and Charles bought her a bus ticket to go home.” He continued, “Some of his letters seem to suggest that he knew she was pregnant, and that may have been another reason for sending her back.”
