What began as a slow investigation from the time of the first killing on July 1, to the last murder on August 25, slowly started to take shape. Susan Atkins, who had been charged with Manson for car theft, began telling stories about the murders while in jail, and finally gave the police the evidence they needed to put all 9 murders in consecutive order. And more importantly, she gave them the evidence they needed to prosecute Manson in masterminding the entire plan.
