Despite the European Union stepping in, along with 27 other countries that ban the horrific practice of illegal shark finning in the year 2013, it is still going on in many parts of the world. Much of the finning and killing of sharks happens throughout the Pacific and Indian Oceans, helping to continue to feed the illegal trade.
