The official test takes 10-days to finish, and it’s actually done in two separate parts. The first portion is ‘training on performing medical care while under enemy fire,’ after which all the soldiers are given a chance to go over ‘what they had learned that day in “study hall”, ’ in order to test it out for actual grading in the second portion. But nothing was going to prepare her for the hike at the very end.

The final portion of the test is a 12-mile hike which competators must wear the 36-pound rucksack, while holding their rifle, and completing it within a 3-hour window. It was not only going to be a true test of endurance, but it was going to test Capt. Cudd in a way she had never been tested before.
