14. Sujit Kumar, Fiji, 1978
A boy named Sujit was often punished by his parents by being locked up in a chicken coop. After his mother committed suicide and his father was murdered, Sujit’s grandparents decided to keep the boy locked up with the chickens. When he was eventually released, he’d perch on a chair and peck at his food, making rapid clicking noises with his tongue.
After being taken to an old people’s home by carers – where he was too aggressive for the workers, he was tied to a bed for 20 years. Now 30 years old, he is cared for by a woman who rescued him from the abusive home.
