It all began shortly after Carrie Ann’s death, when apparently Ferreira’s conscience had driven him to become close to the family. Tammy Zingler-Schmidt was 9 when her cousin and close friend Carrie disappeared. She said that in the weeks and months following the disappearance, Ferreira befriended the family and would sit at their kitchen table trying to comfort them, while hinting he had information but couldn’t reveal it or he’d be killed.
