Their Heroes

The mother who had backed up on her own child was completely distraught over what had happened. Coach Quirollo said, “I don’t think she knew what happened until it was over.” But what she did realize was that around a dozen boys had come to her aid selflessly, and in doing so, they had rescued her daughter. Thankfully, the girl went away from the accident with just a few scrapes and bruises.

Story Five: A Grizzly Bear Attack

In July of 2011, a bunch of teenage boys between ages 16 to 18 were on a survival-skills course up in Alaska. The entire trip was composed of 30 days, and they were on day 24, no longer having adults along with them. The course was there to test if what they had learned was something they could put into actual use. Unlucky for them, while trekking, they had a run in with a mother grizzly bear and her bear cub, and like what any mother bear would do, she attacked the teenagers, believing that she was protecting her cub in the process.
