Two decades later, nobody still discovered who stabbed Epps to death. So, cops decided to look into Fountain’s life. At 50 years of age, he had a long rap sheet. He had several rape convictions and a conviction for manslaughter. But that’s not all. DNA recovered from the scene of the crime connected him to the victim. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 23 years to life on July 1, 2013.

Klaas’ death made national headlines in 1976. After all, she was married to Righteous Brothers’ singer Bill Medley. She had been assaulted and strangled to near death as she was on her on her way home. She was brought to the hospital after but died a few days later. The investigators worked hard but procedures for DNA testing at that time had been severely limited. The case stayed quiet after that.
