The police officers decided to open this case once more when advancements in technology had solved numerous murder incidents. The experts used a method called familial DNA testing to find a suspect. They went through several databases and finally tracked down a convicted felon named Kenneth Troyer. He was actually held in prison then for assault. And years later, police shot him to death when he attempted to escape.

These two cases seemed unconnected at first. Lozano, 17 years old, was abducted around Easter of 2011 while Guzman, 22 years old, was abducted the day after Christmas as she was on her way to the pharmacy. Both girls were assaulted before they were killed and their bodies were found not too long after. The police collected everything, including every single item that contained DNA. But then, nothing happened.
