They hired their own private investigators, and alongside them, Brad Garrett, who was a former FBI cold case agent, as well as an ABC News consultant. Garrett quickly began to put together timelines, clues, as well as setting up interviews with known suspects. According to Garrett, upon his analysis of the case, the Bloomington police had refused to release surveillance footage of Lauren from the days she went missing. He reportedly said, “It’s a huge mistake not to release surveillance video and talk to the public. Even to this day, you have to keep the word out. That’s how you get information back.”
